Your out-of-state move, step by step

A good scouting trip begins before you board the plane. Give yourself a clear sequence and room for the decisions that take time.

Before you book travel

Discuss your timeline, financing or cash plan, and any home-sale dependency. Narrow the search by home type, ownership costs, and daily destinations. Watch current tours for orientation and write down questions; footage does not replace an inspection or a current fee sheet.

Plan a realistic scouting trip

Group tours by location and leave buffer time between appointments. Include ordinary errands as well as model homes. Schedule time for Main Street or Waterside Place and check the official events calendar for your travel dates.

If you choose new construction

Discuss representation before registering with a builder. Review the contract, deposit schedule, change deadlines, inspection access, anticipated completion window, and what happens if the schedule changes. Keep a temporary housing option if your move date is fixed.

Between contract and closing

Track lender and contract deadlines. Arrange inspections appropriate to the home and construction stage, document questions, and get written answers. Confirm insurance and utility arrangements, closing logistics, and how a final walkthrough will be handled if you cannot attend.

After you arrive

Review association onboarding, amenity access, trash collection, utilities, and any applicable registration or exemption deadlines with the relevant agency. Keep warranty and service contacts in one place.
